On Sunday, September 15th we hosted our annual Greenbrae Property Owners Association Barbecue. Thanks to our generous sponsors and volunteers, this event was relaxing and fun, and it was enjoyed thoroughly by the many friends and neighbors who joined us in Greenbrae School Park for this wonderful day in the sun! To us, it seemed to be our most enjoyable and successful neighborhood barbecue to date, and due to our fabulous caterer and our generous sponsors, we were able to reduce our costs significantly and come in well under budget this year!
By holding the event a little earlier in the day than in years past, we were able to take full advantage of our outstanding, Indian Summer weather. Neighbors young and old enjoyed the live, musical entertainment, the delicious burgers and fries, the refreshing drinks and yummy cookies, as well as the games which included basketball hoops activities, volleyball, relay races and a tug of war. And, to the delight of their parents, our youngest guests enjoyed spending the afternoon in the jumpee house!
We were pleased to have members from our local police and fire departments on hand as well as Larry Chu and Brad Marsh from the Larkspur City Council.
We would like to acknowledge our generous sponsors whose donations made our event financially feasible and enabled us to provide delicious desserts, plentiful, pure water and ice for our drinks:
EAT MY COOKIES IN CORTE MADERA
THE WATER STORE IN GREENBRAE’S BON AIR SHOPPING CENTER
MOLLIE STONE’S MARKET
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all our neighborhood volunteers (including our families!) who helped set up, break down and staff the event. And special thanks goes to the following volunteers who took on leadership roles for the event:
The GPOA Board for their assistance before, during and after the event
Caren Horstmeyer for organizing our basketball activities
Julie Hornsby being our “cookie coordinator”
Lara Eisenbarth and family for overseeing drinks/cookie sales
Beatrice MacMillan and family for organizing our games
The Berston and Pyle families for donating helping us make this a “green” event by donating their recycling and composting bins for the day
To the Collins and Noren Families for allowing us to “plug in” to their outdoor electrical outlets to power the band amplifiers
The Campodonico family for overall assistance throughout the event
We would also like to thank Zak and his crew from Docs of the Bay catering for the delicious burgers, veggie burgers and fries!
Finally, we’d like to thank Chris Detrick from MY AMP (Marin Youth Accelerated Music Program) and JASON ZUCKER (Redwood HS) for their help with the musical entertainment. Both the April Fools (from MY AMP) and Jason Zucker’s outstanding instrumental band featured very talented middle and high school aged musicians from Greenbrae and Central Marin.
Thanks again to all our friends and neighbors who came out to to spend the day with us and for reminding us about why our neighborhood is so special! See y’all again next year!
